The Statesville news editor (who is also a good friend of mine) said you can tell a lot about an applicant by asking where they want to be in 5 or 10 years.
I'm not applying for anything, but for the sake of my dear blog readers, here are my 5 and 10 year goals. Now that I'm married, I realize some of these should probably match up with Brad's 5 and 10 year goals. But, this is my blog and when 5 and 10 years come along we'll talk about them. (Haha, I'm only half kidding, Brad.)
IN FIVE YEARS...
...I will be 30 years old.
...I want to have a stable, well-paying job in North Carolina. It could be in media, instruction or event planning.
...I want to own a home. Not necessarily our first home, but a quality home.
...I want to start having children.
...I want to be able to run a full mile ... outside ... in the summer.
IN TEN YEARS...
...I will be 35 years old.
...I want to be able to devote time to our children. To help with homework, be a soccer mom, to join the PTA.
...I want to have a healthy nest egg established and start on a college fund.
...I want to go to Disney World.
...I want to be the same size that I am today.
...I want to be college loan free.
So that's where I want to be. I guess if I were an applicant, someone would say that I'm focused on a family and financial security. There you have it, looks like I'm normal!

Happy birthday babies!
Rocky and Smalls had their first birthday (and their first birthday party) this month. April 7 to be exact. Why is that doubly important? It is 4-7, and 47 is Brad's favorite number.
We got them each a can of wet cat food, which they devoured like they were starving. We also got them presents: little kitty pop tents with tunnels to connect them. Think of them like the old hamster cages with tubes connecting the cages. Each tent has little ribbons hanging from the inside, and when they crawl in it sounds like grocery bags.
The boys love them.

On another note, Brad and I were sent to Richmond for multimedia training at the corporate office this week. It gave us a rare glimpse at broadcast journalists. Yeah, we learned cool multimedia stuff, but tolerating broadcast journalists took more effort. Yikes!
Side bonus: our hotel had a gym, pool and hot tub. It was like a mini vacation ... for FREE!

Brad and I went to Greensboro on Saturday to visit my dad. It was his 46th birthday and we hadn't seen my family since, well, pretty much since the wedding last September. Oops.
I think the cutest part of the trip was watching my dad give Brad golf lessons in the back yard. I haven't seen my dad look so happy in a long time. Oh wait, I haven't seen my dad in a long time.
We also saw my brother's new house. It's nice, and I'm glad he's finally being an adult. Granny and granddaddy are getting to where they must just be bored out of their minds. They sit in the house all day (Granny basically can't move any more because of RA), so they rely heavily on the game show network and phone calls.
Last in our gauntlet of visits was to Jenn's house. We were going to grill hamburgers then head to a Grasshoppers game (minor league baseball), but it was rained out. All in all a good trip, especially because Brad got to bond with Jenn. She is probably the person most like me, so it threw me off that they hadn't really hit it off yet. Then I realized what was wrong: she just wasn't given the chance. Once they were in the same room together without major events (like weddings) going on, they hit it off.
Cool.

Now I'm watching hour four of the Discovery Channel. I love science and nature shows. First it was "Walking with Cavemen," then "Man vs. Nature." Now it's "Planet Earth." Good thing Brad's working or he'd have left for a six-hour Madden fest by himself. And that, my friends, is why it's good to have different days off occasionally.

Oh crap
Brad sat on my bed the other day shuffling through a paper I'd left out. He thought it was just trash, but it was one of the copies of the R&L with our wedding announcement in it.
He says we left out Nany.
What? You're kidding.
No, really. We put in all the grandparents but Nany.
How could we have forgotten Nany?!? I read that announcement over and over for like a month before it ran in the paper. We really left her out.
Brad said that maybe she didn't notice, or maybe she didn't get the announcement. I thought, I doubt it. I made sure all the family members got a copy of the paper. I know if it were someone in my family getting married I would read expecting to see my name in there.
Did she notice? Did it hurt her feelings? I feel terrible. What if she thinks we left her out on purpose? I think it may be even worse that we accidentally left her out.
Am I thinking about this too much?
Here's what we're doing to fix it at least. We are finally going to run that announcement in the Charlotte Observer. It won't be as big, but it will include Nany. Be sure to pick up the April 28 paper.
I feel like such a bonehead.
